Cognitive psychology

The study of the human Mind and mental processes, often with computational or information-theoretical models of the brain (see Cognitivism for more on the theoretical framework).

A hazy subset of Cognitive science, cogpsy is focused particularly on humans and on mental phenomena, whereas cognitive science is more wide-ranging, including discussions of anthropology, linguistics, animal behavior, neurophysiology, artificial intelligence, etc.

History

• Early 1800s: Mental events are hidden; we can’t study them scientifically.
• Late 1800s: Yes we can! Wilhelm Wundt, Hermann Ebbinghaus, William James
• Early 1900s: Behaviorism: no we can’t!
• Late 1900s: Cognitivism and The cognitive revolution: yes we can!
