GitLab is an “open core” Commercial open-source software business offering code collaboration tools. It started as a GitHub knockoff but grew to compete with Atlassian’s collaboration suite.
In {September 2019}, GitLab raised a {$268M} series {E} on a {$2.5B pre-money valuation}. Their ARR is over $100M, but they are not yet profitable. They plan to IPO in 2020.
They are an extreme example of Work with the garage door up: their internal company handbook, thousands of pages of policies and practices (plus their strategy and plans), is available openly online. Their internal meetings are recorded and published on YouTube.
