Don’t make me think - Krug

Mostly focused on issues of (primarily-static) web design, but includes a solid overview of many important principles of information design and typography, presented clearly.

Q. Having explained that people don’t read web pages, don’t make optimal choices, and don’t actually figure out how things work, what memorable advice is given for an exasperated designer?
A. “If your audience is going to act like you’re designing billboards, then design great billboards.”

Because people are scanning—rather than reading—your web site, you should think about your work as if you’re designing a {billboard}.

Q. How does Krug propose to resolve tensions between clarity and consistency?
A. If you can make something significantly clearer by making it slightly inconsistent, choose in favor of clarity.

Q. Steve Krug’s counter-intuitive stance on minimizing clicks?
A. Number of clicks doesn’t matter so long as each click is painless and feels like progress.
